Tendai Rupapa Senior Court ReporterAn adulterous 25-year-old Harare woman allegedly killed her one-week-old baby girl by throwing her into a dam on her way home from hospital. Tambudzai Chifanza, who is married, is alleged to have been impregnated by
her lover and decided to “get rid” of the baby while coming from Mhandamahwe Hospital in Masvingo where she had given birth.Chifanza appeared before Ms Anita Tshuma charged with infanticide.
She was remanded to August 14 on US$50 bail.Prosecutor Ms Sharon Mashavira alleges that on July 14, Chifanza gave birth to a baby girl at Mhandamahwe Hospital.
She was discharged a week later and proceeded to Harare with the baby.On her way to their house in Ruwa, Chifanza passed through a dam and threw the baby while she was alive, it is alleged.
She then went home and lied to her husband and relatives that the baby had died at the hospital.Her relatives demanded supporting evidence to show that indeed the baby had died in hospital.
The court heard that her husband allegedly later got information from the hospital that she had left the hospital with the baby.It is the State’s case that Chifanza later confessed that her husband was not the father of the deceased which led her to kill the child.
In another case, a Hatcliffe man is battling for his life at Parirenyatwa Hospital after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his wife.Prisca Masimu (30) accused her husband Lloyd Chipanera of dating other women before stabbing him, it is alleged.
Masimu appeared before Ms Tshuma who remanded her to August 8 on US$50 bail.
