Few years past, Nigerians seem to have found themselves in a state of hopelessness and discouragement. Albeit, to help us; at the abrupt demise of the former Head of State and Commander–in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Late Alhaji Musa Yar’Adua in office, the nation was plunged into a state of confusion then followed the emergence of bomb blasts which seem to hold sway in the North to date despite the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan who was then the Vice president took courage and stepped into the shoes of the late President Yar’Adua.

Then came there 2011 general elections, attempted removal of the fuel subsidy, re-naming of the Lagos State University to MKO Abiola University, new salary structure of N18,000  minimum wage to workers and the dreaded Boko Haram – “Western education is evil”, a move seen or made to Islamize the whole nation.

Also, these troubles and lots more had put the nation into the state of confusion and discouragement following deaths of more than 2000 people through bomb blasts, plane crash, road accidents and diseases.

Now, with the beginning of the New Year 2013, Nigerians should have cause to be thankful to Almighty God or Allah as the case may be. The last Christmas period which marked the coming of the Saviour, Lord Jesus Christ had ushered in the New Year with full assurance for Nigerians to be hopeful and courageous.

Suffice it to say that the world is ending the problems and as far as the Holy Bible and Holy Koran talk about end time, it cannot be in this way and in Nigeria.

We, therefore, call on Nigerians to be hopeful to God and be of sound courage as the Lord Almighty is with us and moreso, the government of the day is not relenting in its efforts to tackle the situation. The much talk about uncommon transformation particularly in Akwa Ibom State, is a sign of good things coming in the year and beyond.

It is, however, pertinent that we on this note sound a note of warning to politicians about the anticipated general election in 2015. Already, a lot of noise is being made about exercise to come and some of the noise are unpalatable considering what had been going on since the last one in 2011. So, for days ahead, the mistakes of the past should not be allowed to repeat themselves. Finally, let hope and courage be your watchword and all would be well.
