On the 7th day of September, 2012, the newly elected students’ executive of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) was inaugurated at the prestigious Lamens Hotel and Suit No. 40 Nkemba Street, Uyo.

In his acceptance/inaugural speech, the newly elected president of the group, Comrade Felix Etukudo Hephzibah expressed deep satisfaction over the comportment of (NOUN) students during and after the Students leadership polls; and the level of commitment and responsibility exhibited.  He thanked the students for finding him fit by electing him their President and described his election as a call from God and promised to use the platform to project and protect the name and the image of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Akwa Ibom State. Comrade Felix Etukudo also enumerated “success – tools” to be employed by the executive to include efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability to carryout advocacy of (NOUN) in Akwa Ibom State through the media; and to advocate for a permanent site for NOUN in the State and for regular payment of bursary to all students in all levels in NOUN as applicable in other Federal Universities. The President also pledged the readiness of his executive in the advocacy for inclusion in National University Games (NUGA) inter alia.

The list of the newly elected Exco members NOUN Chapter is as shown here under: Hephzibah Felix Etukudo, President; Asuquo Emilia Peter, Vice President; Akpan Ukeme Archibong, Secretary General; Reuben Imoh Samuel, Asst. Secretary; William Peter Akpan, Financial Secretary; Essien Sampson Udo Udo, Treasurer; Richard Ufiok Edem, Director of Information I; Simon Dominic Andrew, Director of Information II; Ukut Aniefiok Etim, Director of Sports. Others are Uboh Emem Emah, Director of women of Affairs; Macaulay Etebong Ufot, Director of Socials/ Welfare; Godwin George Imoh, Auditor – General; Etim Enefiok John, Director of Protocols; Enekene Brain Okon, Provost Marshal; Itipe Ime Okono, SA on Special Duties; Godwin Sunday Akpan, SA on Political Affairs.

The group arisen from its executive meeting recently in a communiqué made available to newsmen in Uyo, pledge their unflinching support to the present administration led by Chief Godswill Akpabio whom they described as super Governor, because of his achievements since he took over governance five years ago.

The student body said that in view of the modern technological era, the governor had moved with time by initiating, building and commissioning the E-library which according to them has met the yearning of students and researchers most especially the school that operates chiefly online, “we are grateful to the governor because the E-library seems to be built for the students of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) because of its nature of operation”. They listed other key projects of the governor to include Ibom deep sea port at Ibaka, twentieth Anniversary hospital, ultra modern fly overs, good road networks, youth development among others that are so dear to them.

They expressed the hope that who ever will succeed the governor would be deeply examined to ensure that he has the matching powers and political will to meet the precedence set by Governor Akpabio.
