spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Tuesday last week.

He said indications are that the now deceased, George Fuzha (31) of Matesanwa village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe, returned home in the middle of the night to find one Pagiwa Magarika, from the same village, trying to help himself to his property.

Fuzha is said to have confronted the intruder but was overpowered and struck on the head. “We are investigating a murder case where a 31-year-old man from Gokwe was hit on the head with an unknown object by a fellow villager whom he had found trying to steal from his house.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 1am. The victim has been identified as George Fuzha while the suspect, Pagiwa Magarika, is still at large,” he said.Insp Mahoko said on the fateful day, the now deceased Fuzha and his wife Ms Nomatter Burutsai arrived home from Chinyenyetu business centre and saw Magarika trying to steal from their house.

“The suspect ran away when he saw the now deceased and his wife approaching but he did not run for long as the now Fuzha caught up with him and the two tussled. Indications are that it was during the tussle that Magarika struck Fuzha on the head.

“When the deceased’s wife arrived she found him lying unconscious. The wife then alerted other villagers, but Fuzha died before he was attended to,” he said. Insp Mahoko disclosed that the body of the deceased was conveyed to Mtora Mission Hospital for post-mortem.

He appealed to members of the public who might have information leading to the arrest of Magarika to alert their nearest police station or make use of the suggestion box facility.
