LAWMAKER OPENS CONSTITUENCY OFFICE, FETES CONSTITUENTS

The Member representing Ukanafun State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA), Rt. Hon. (Elder)Aniekan S. Akpan on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 opened the Ukanafun State Constituency office. The official opening of the office by the Deputy Speaker of the AKHA, who represented the AKHA Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Samuel Ikon, preceded the Constituency briefing/empowerment. In his address, the Ukanafun born lawmaker said he came to express his gratitude to the people of Ukanafun for what he described as “unshakable loyalty.” He thanked his constituents for the support they gave him, the state Governor; Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and pledged to remain steadfast and committed to the wellbeing of the Ukanafun people. Hon. Akpan who said the legislative arm of government is also saddled with the task of bridging the gap between the government, stated that the constituency office will “serve as rallying point for all citizens of ukanafun” and called on the people to forward all matters to the office for necessary “attention and action”. Elder Akpan who is the Chairman, House Services Committee described Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio as a “promise keeper” he particularly commended the Governor for awarding contract for the construction of Nseke-Ukanafun road and several other projects including; the construction of 4 classroom blocks in Government Primary School, Ikot Oku Usung, Community Primary School, Ikot Aka Ntuen, Government Primary School, Ikot Uta ad Government Primary School Ikot Ide. The former Ukanafun Council boss intimated the people of Ukanafun that his door is always open to them, he advised the beneficiaries of the items to make good use of whatever they received, urging those who did not benefit to be patient, as it is a continuous process. Hon Aniekan Akpan used the opportunity to restate his commitment and dedication to the service of Ukanafun people in particular and Akwa Ibom state, promising to harness the potentials of the people towards the development of the nation. Items donated included: 5 business centre equipment, 10 barbing salon equipments, 10 hairdressing equipments, 10 3000 Sumec generators, 10 950 Tiger generators, 4 electric sewing machines, 6 manual sewing machines, 20 men motorcycle and 5 lady’s motorbikes. In his address, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Rt. Hon. (Elder) Samuel Ikon who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan who said the duties of a legislator goes beyond making law, commended Hon. Aniekan Akpan for the gesture, he lauded the maturity exhibited by the people of Ukanafun, adding that its an indication that the right persons benefitted. Sir Udo Kierian AkpanUrged all the beneficiaries to use whatever item they received judiciously advising those who are yet to benefit to remain steadfast, as they will benefit in due course. Sir Akpan who described Elder Aniekan Akpan as a ‘dependable ally’ said that the large turnout points to the fact that the Iko Oku Usung born legislator is accepted by the people of ukanafun state Constituency. Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Imo Ibokete said the constituency office shall serve as a feedback mechanism between the people and their lawmaker, vis-à-vis the state at large, urging all ukanafun people to send their memo to the office. Mr. Ibokette applauded for carrying everyone along, while calling on those yet to benefit to remain loyal. Dignitaries who also attended the epoch making event include; The Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency and the Deputy Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Asembly, Rt. Hon.
