No, it is false - ALGON

By our Correspondence

It is rather unbelievable that the just sworn-in Local Government Councils across the State which many insinuated were hand picked by those in power would suddenly turned tigers and begin to peruse the same power that facilitated their elections against all odds.

Century Newsfront investigations revealed that initially, the local government service commission was the body that undertook the payment of local government staff salaries but when the present local government councils came on board, they blatantly kicked against such arrangement saying that it was counter productive which world continue to draw the local government administration in the state backward, stressing that staff payment in the councils should be controlled by them so as to be able control staff.

It was discovered that because of this argument, the statement has resulted in the non payment of staff in the local government area for the past two months including the stipends of traditional rulers as at the time of our investigation.

One of the local government local government chairmen who pleaded anonymity said they are not in any way fighting the governor whom he attributed as their mentor but the local government service commission to put things right, but pleaded with the governor to interfere all staff and traditional rulers are already on them neck.

When contacting, the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) says that the situation has been solved amicably as the state governor has stepped into the matter.

The position of ALGON was made known recently through the group’s public Relations Officer, Mr Ephraim Akpan. The PRO of he group who also I the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin local government Area said the situation had been quelled following the prompt of the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, “the state government has directed that payment of salaries be reverted to councils because Chairmen lost control of staff. Staff did not show effectiveness to duty since chairmen were not directly responsible for their salaries. Now, chairmen will have the full grip of staff, it is the directive of the governor”, he explained.
